President and CEO of The Chicago Network
Maria Salterio Doughty joined The Chicago Network as President and CEO in April 2020. Prior to coming to the Network, she was the Director of Public Policy and Regulatory Examinations and Corporate Counsel for Allstate Insurance Company. In her more than 20 years with Allstate, Maria led the public policy team, which identified and developed public policy positions and advocacy strategies for the enterprise. She actively supported and oversaw research on a broad range of issues and trends that impacted the Company at the state and federal levels. She cultivated, maintained, and managed legislative and regulatory relationships and used strategic tools to promote business objectives and the Company’s public policy goals. Maria also led the regulatory examinations team and oversaw market conduct examinations and other regulatory investigations countrywide.
Prior to that role, she served as the State Regulatory and Government Affairs Midwest Region Director and Corporate Counsel, where she worked as the chief legal counsel for Allstate’s field operations in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. She educated and influenced legislators, regulators, and other government officials and helped manage public opinion on critical corporate issues. Maria was also Managing Counsel in the Insurance Operations Division, where she supervised and handled countrywide claims related to legal issues and she was a member of the Corporate Litigation Division, where she managed class action, employment, and insurance related litigation. Prior to working at Allstate, Maria was a litigator at the law firms of Johnson & Bell in Chicago, Illinois and Fortson & White in Atlanta, Georgia. During her career, Maria counseled senior executives on a broad range of strategic issues, including business planning, risk reduction, litigation prevention, and crisis management.
Maria is involved with many civic and philanthropic organizations. She is a Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow. She serves as President of the Latino Policy Forum board, President of the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence board, and Co-Chair of the Illinois Task Force for Employment and Economic Opportunity for Persons with Disabilities. Maria was on the Anti-Defamation League’s Women of Achievement Committee for more than a decade and she has served on a number of professional association boards including the National Conference of Insurance Guaranty Funds, the Illinois Insurance Guaranty Fund, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, and the Illinois Insurance Association. Maria received her J.D. and B.A. from Emory University in Atlanta, and completed post graduate work as a Robert T. Jones Scholar at the University of St. Andrews, in Scotland. She lives in Northbrook with her husband and has two grown sons.
