Kimberly (Kim) Chainey is an accomplished C-Suite executive with more than 15 years of experience working with companies in a variety of industries including Aviation, Automotive/Transportation, Consumer Products/Retail, Tech/Telecom, Oil/Gas/Real Estate, Manufacturing, Pharma/Biotech, and Travel/Tourism. She has served as a legal advisor for Boards and C-Suite executives of Global 100 and Fortune 500 companies, venture companies, and government entities in achieving their strategic objectives while balancing global risks. She is a public company General Counsel (NYSE:ATR), leading a global legal department and serves on the board of a public technology company (NYSE:NPTN).

Kim has extensive experience operating in global markets — structuring and negotiating strategic investments including M&A and joint ventures throughout Latin America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. She has led global teams of 40+ professionals, serving in legal, regulatory, and commercial functions. During the course of her career, she has provided legal support to a variety of global functions including: M&A, antitrust, litigation management, compliance, intellectual property, human resources, government relations, corporate communications, information systems, and various commercial functions (i.e. sales, advertising, marketing, franchise, and operations). Kim also has significant securities experience with IPOs, routine securities filings, public company finance, and venture capital/private equity.

Ms. Chainey is currently the EVP, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary of AptarGroup, Inc., a Fortune 850 company and a global leader in drug delivery, consumer products, pharmaceutical dispensing, and active packaging solutions. She is responsible for the company’s global legal affairs and is a member of Aptar’s Executive Committee. Ms. Chainey works with a talented team of attorneys and staff to provide legal, commercial, compliance, and government relations support.

Kim was previously VP, General Counsel for Panasonic Avionics Corporation (PAC) (2018-2020), a global business unit of Panasonic Corporation, a Global 100 company. In this role, her core focus included leading a global team, managing complex projects and transactions, executing crisis management plans, overseeing the management of commercial contracts, and working with company leaders to analyze legislation and determine its impact on Panasonic Avionics.

Prior to her role at PAC, Kim served as Associate General Counsel for Avis Budget Group (ABG), a Fortune 400 global tourism and mobility company, responsible for Global M&A, Strategy, Innovation (2017 – 2018), and Latin America/Asia Pacific (2014 – 2016). While at ABG, Kim supported key innovation and strategic initiatives such as autonomous vehicles, connected cars, and global intellectual property. She also served on the leadership team of ABG’s Global Women’s Initiative.

Kim came to Avis Budget Group in 2014 from the Hershey Company, a Fortune 500 confectionery company, where she most recently served as Associate General Counsel, International and Associate General Counsel, Global Operations and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). As the lead attorney for several multi-billion dollar business unit(s)/functional units, she built and led a team of 13 legal professionals in the US, China, India, and Latin America. Prior to that, she held various legal roles of increasing responsibility at Hershey’s, (Associate General Counsel, Global Operations and EMEA, where she wasthe lead attorney for Global Operations, a $3.5 billion business unit). While at Hershey’s, Kim led a global antitrust case, managed labor disputes in multiple countries, and led a variety of transactions including: the legal integration plan for a $400 million Chinese acquisition, the redevelopment of the iconic

Hershey plant, the construction of one of Southeast Asia’s largest food investment/manufacturing plants, and a social responsibility manufacturing plant in Ghana to support malnourished children in sub-Saharan Africa called “Project Peanut Butter”. She also led major supply chain restructuring projects involving the closure, sale, and construction of new manufacturing facilities around the world.

While in private practice, Kim began her career as an Associate in the Business and Finance Department of Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP in Philadelphia, where she worked on M&A, securities, and venture capital transactions for companies in the biotech/healthcare, media, financial services, and oil and gas industries. Later, Kim joined Wolf Block Schorr and Solis-Cohen as a senior associate in the Real Estate Group performing various roles in large real estate, commercial finance, and affordable housing projects including: the condemnation, redevelopment, and sale of 200+ residential properties for an urban in-fill development; the sale of a $500+ million commercial real estate portfolio in the DC metro area; and development of a Fortune 100 corporate headquarters in Pennsylvania.

Kim earned her JD/MBA from The University of Pennsylvania and Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Kim earned her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, cum laude from Harvard University, Harvard-Radcliffe College. She is admitted in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and is an Illinois registered in-house counsel.

She has served as treasurer of the board of both the Law Project of Pennsylvania, and of Harrisburg Catholic Charities. Kim is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Montclair Art Museum. This seminar was a financial acumen webinar deployed on a subscription basis by 12+ Fortune 500 legal departments and on a membership basis to over 100 individual participants.

Ms. Chainey has received numerous awards. She was named Champion of Innovation by the Black Women Lawyer’s Association of Los Angeles (2019) and was the winner of the Profiles in Diversity Award by the ACC Southern California Chapter (2019). She has been listed as Savoy Magazine’s most influential Women in Corporate America (2019) and Most Influential Black Lawyers in the United States (2018). Named as one of New York City’s Top 100 Women Lawyers by Crain’s New York inaugural list of “Leading Women Lawyers in New York City in 2017”. Designated a 2017 Rising Star by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, featured in Diversity in the Bar magazine. 2017 WIHCL Bridge Builder Awardee. Named by Inside Counsel magazine to the 2014 R3-100 – List of Women Ready to Take on the Role of GC in 3 years.
