Susan King is a Principal at HED where she oversees the firm’s housing and community work across the Midwest. An unrelenting advocate for sustainable design, attainable housing, social justice, and issues of diversity, much of her award winning work focuses on community-based housing access for people across all ages and socioeconomic status. She is currently involved with the Conservatory Apartments which, when completed later this year, will be the first multi-family project at scale to achieve Passive House (PHIUS) certification in the City of Chicago. She was also involved with reimagining the historic portion of Lathrop, one of the last Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) Transformation Plans, converting it into a new mixed income community. Other notable projects include high density transit oriented high rise, Lake Street Studios, and new affordable assisted senior living developments in nearby Indiana.
