Stephanie Braming

Stephanie Braming, CFA, NACD.DC

Stephanie Braming is a board director, former investment management chief executive and institutional investor with more than 30 years of experience in governance, enterprise leadership, strategy, financial oversight and global investing. She currently serves as an Independent Trustee of the State Street Mutual Funds and as a Trustee of DePauw University, where she is a member of the Investment Committee and Business & Financial Affairs Committee. She is also a Trustee of the Griffin Museum of Science & Industry, where she is Audit Committee Vice Chair and a member of the Finance Committee, and serves on the Board and Finance Committee of Working in the Schools. Her governance experience also includes serving as Chair of the William Blair Funds and Luxembourg SICAVs and on the Board of Governors of the Investment Company Institute.

Previously, Stephanie spent 21 years at William Blair, most recently as Chief Executive and Global Head of William Blair Investment Management. She led global enterprise strategy, financial performance, investments, risk and infrastructure and drove international expansion through acquisitions and lift-outs. She also served on William Blair’s governing Executive Committee, with responsibility for firmwide strategy, financial performance, risk oversight and executive compensation.

As an institutional investor, Stephanie managed $19 billion in international equity portfolios, making investment decisions across global sectors and engaging with company management teams. Earlier in her career, she was a principal at Mercer Investment Consulting, advising institutions on asset allocation and manager selection, and began her career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

Stephanie holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BA from DePauw University. She is NACD Directorship Certified® and an Audit Committee Qualified Financial Expert. She has been recognized by Forbes, Barron’s, Pensions & Investments, American Banker and Crain’s for her leadership. In 2025, she received the CFA Society Chicago’s Hortense Friedman Award for Excellence.
Stephanie has received recognition for her leadership in the investment industry by Forbes, American Banker, Barron’s, and Pensions & Investments. She has a CFA designation and the NACD Directorship Certification. Stephanie received a B.A. from DePauw University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
