Gail Hasbrouck is a legal expert and seasoned board director with a broad-based expertise in Health Care, Mergers & Acquisitions, Compliance, Risk Management, Business Arrangements and Corporate Governance. She has a strategic perspective and in-depth knowledge of the health care industry.

Gail Hasbrouck was Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at Advocate Health Care, Illinois’s largest fully integrated health care delivery system from 1982 to 2016. Advocate is recognized as one of the top ten health care systems in the country, based on clinical performance. Gail was strategic advisor to the Board and the CEO as a member of the senior leadership team exhibiting leadership, business, compliance and legal skills. She was responsible for legal affairs, transactions, compliance, physician arrangements, claims management and corporate secretary functions for all Advocate entities. She worked closely with the Advocate Board and was a Board Member from 2014 to present, attending every Executive and Audit Committee meeting. Also attended the Planning Committee meetings when the agenda included the entire board. Presented to and advised the board on Advocate merger & acquisition activity, regulatory issues, compliance concerns and major litigation.

Ms. Hasbrouck served as Board Member of Advocate Insurance Segregated Portfolio Company until retirement. The company is Advocate’s insurance captive organized in the Cayman Islands.

Prior to the Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary position, Gail Hasbrouck was Associate General Counsel at one of Advocate’s predecessor organizations from 1978 to 1982. She organized the legal and risk management functions, recruited and developed staff, established litigation management protocols and organized the insurance segregated portfolio company. She was named General Counsel in 1982 and led the merger of Evangelical Health Systems and Lutheran General Health Systems that created Advocate Health Care in 1995. She developed an internal legal function that brought 95% of the legal work in house that had been handled externally, saving the company millions of dollars in legal fees. Complex transactions, valued in the multi millions, were handled internally.

Gail Hasbrouck is currently Chair of the Metro Chicago Board of Directors, American Heart Association. She has been a member of the board since 2010. She is Founder and Chair of “Counsel for a Cause”, a Celebrity Chef fundraising event focused on the legal community that has raised half a million dollars for the work of the Heart Association in two years.

Ms. Hasbrouck Chaired Chicago’s American Heart Association Heart Walk in 2010. The Heart Walk raised more than $450,000.

Gail Hasbrouck is a Fellow in the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) and former five-year Board Member. She was the organizing founder of the ongoing In-House Counsel Programs as a member of the Board.

She is past President of the Illinois Health and Hospital Association and a former member of the Board of Directors.

 

 

Gail Hasbrouck holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley, a Masters of Arts in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago and a Juris Doctor from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. She enjoys international travel, the theatre, and fine dining.
