Catherine A. Jacobson is Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning and Finance, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer at Rush University Medical Center. In this role, Ms. Jacobson is responsible for strategic planning, marketing and communications as well as all financial functions for the Rush’s hospitals, practice plan, university and research divisions. During her tenure as CFO, Rush has returned to profitability and more than doubled its cash and investment balances. She led the effort to revise all external reporting to bondholders and other investors to adopt best practices in disclosure and timeliness. Responsibility for strategic planning and marketing was added in 2006.
Prior to joining Rush in 1996, Ms. Jacobson was Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Rush Prudential Health Plans. She also served in a variety of capacities at the Rush Health Plans, including Vice President of Finance and Administration, prior to their merger with the Prudential Insurance Company of America in 1993.
Ms. Jacobson received her B.S. in Accounting from Bradley University. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Illinois CPA Society. Ms. Jacobson is a member and Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), and has served as National Chair of the Board in 2009-2010. She formerly served on its Principles and Practices Board for six years and served as chair in 2000. In this capacity, Ms. Jacobson presented issues before the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) on two occasions. Ms. Jacobson also formerly served on the Issuer Advisory Committee to the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board. She is also a member of the Chicago Network and Chicago Finance Exchange, professional organizations for executive women.
Ms. Jacobson serves on the Board of Directors of the Rush Health Associates and is its Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. She is also on the Board of the CORE Foundation, a partnership with the Cook County Bureau of Health, and serves as its Treasurer.
