Paula Allen-Meares on UIC's Pitch for President Barack Obama's Presidential Library

UIC Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares (2009) is featured on the cover of Crain's this week in an article entitled, "UIC's Pitch to Obama." The University of Illinois at Chicago (Mitra Dutta (2014), Lynne O'Shea Nellemann (1980) and Mrinalini Rao (2009)) is making a pitch for President Barack Obama's presidential library and museum and UIC officials say they offer the president and Michelle Obama a chance to highlight their egalitarian principles at a state university that serves a diverse student body.

"I think we, first of all, have a public mission," says Paula Allen-Meares, whose efforts to land the library started 18 months ago. "We are committed to educating underrepresented students and eliminating disparities," she adds, noting there is "no ethnic majority" among its students.

Responses to a request for qualifications are due June 16. Later this summer, the foundation will invite a short list of contenders to submit formal proposals. The University of Chicago (Beth A. Harris (2003), Angela Olinto (2013), Dr. Funmi Olopade (2010), Ellen A. Rudnick (1984), and Susan Sher (1993)) was also mentioned. Read more...
