Kathryn Sullivan is Chief Executive Officer, UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual Local Markets (a division of UnitedHealth Group) with responsibility for $38B revenue and over 14 million members across the country. Kathryn previously served as CEO, Central Region for UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual. She served as a member of the inaugural UnitedHealth Group Cultural Leadership Team, comprised of select UnitedHealth Group senior leaders from each of the businesses and key functional areas and is responsible for guiding and implementing the company’s Culture Map to include Vision, Mission, Values and Behaviors. Sullivan reports directly to Jeff Alter, Chief Executive Officer UnitedHealthcare Commercial Business.

Before joining UnitedHealthcare, Sullivan served as senior vice president and chief financial officer, as well as treasurer for Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. Sullivan’s responsibilities included the Finance Division, oversight and compliance of National Employee Benefits Programs with $6 billion assets, implementation of Blue Health Intelligence (BHI) a national data warehouse to serve Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans nationwide, and the Information Technology Division which provides technology- related programs, solutions, strategic direction and services to both the Association and the system of BCBS Plans.

From 2000 until 2004, Sullivan was President and Chief Executive Officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana. Sullivan joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana in 1982. Her career in Louisiana included executive management experience in nearly every division of the organization, including financial, operations, marketing, managed care and benefits administration.

Kathryn serves as independent Director on board for Hanger, Inc.; she also serves on The Chicago Women’s Network Board as Vice Chair, Lyric Opera Guild Board, YMCA Board, the Executive Club of Chicago Board member, and the Council of 100 – Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago & Northwest Indiana Board. Kathryn is a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago and Women Business Leaders of US Health Care.

She earned a master’s in business administration from the Louisiana State University Executive MBA Program, completed CEO Perspectives, a unique program sponsored by Kellogg School of Management and holds certification as a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
